O Fórum Maranhense de Mulheres emitiu uma Nota de Repúdio contra a nomeação da deputada estadual Abigail Cunha para a Secretaria da Mulher no governo Carlos Brandão (PSB). A nota foi apoiada por 50 entidades ligadas à causa feminina. As entidades argumentam que Abigail não possui histórico de lutas em defesa das mulheres.
Abigail foi nomeada para a Secretaria da Mulher com o objetivo de abrir uma vaga na Assembleia para o suplente Pará Figueiredo (PL), filho do desembargador José Joaquim Figueiredo. Desde que o nome de Abigail foi ventilado para a pasta, ela vem sendo criticada pelas entidades. A deputada de Barra do Corda criou ainda mais polêmica ao publicar uma foto em suas redes sociais ao lado de suas empregadas domésticas, numa tentativa de mostrar que valoriza as mulheres negras que trabalham em sua casa.
A Nota do Fórum de Mulheres ressalta que a indicação de Abigail para a Secretaria da Mulher parece estar levando o Maranhão a retroceder, permitindo que o órgão responsável pelas políticas públicas para mulheres seja tratado como uma secretaria meramente decorativa.
A postagem da foto de Abigail com suas empregadas domésticas também gerou críticas a nível nacional. A deputada apagou a postagem em suas redes sociais logo após a repercussão negativa.
