O Centro Histórico de São Luís, patrimônio mundial da UNESCO desde 1997, é um dos locais mais emblemáticos e ricos em história do Brasil. No entanto, apesar de seu potencial turístico, a região enfrenta desafios de revitalização e preservação. Uma proposta seria a reintrodução do bonde turístico, que passaria por pontos importantes do centro, proporcionando uma experiência única aos visitantes.
O bonde, que já foi um meio de transporte tradicional na cidade, poderia ser uma alternativa sustentável e atrativa para impulsionar o turismo local. Passando por locais como a Praça Benedito Leite, o Palácio dos Leões e a Rua Grande, o bonde facilitaria o acesso a esses pontos turísticos, mas também ajudaria a valorizar o patrimônio histórico e arquitetônico da região.

No entanto, apesar dos benefícios evidentes, a proposta de reintrodução do bonde enfrenta resistência por parte da Prefeitura e do Governo Estadual. Ambos os órgãos têm demonstrado pouco interesse em investir na revitalização do Centro Histórico, preferindo entregar a gestão dos espaços para a iniciativa privada.
Essa postura levanta questionamentos sobre as prioridades das autoridades públicas, que parecem estar mais focadas em interesses econômicos imediatos do que na preservação do patrimônio histórico e na promoção do turismo sustentável. A falta de incentivo e investimento público pode comprometer o potencial turístico do Centro Histórico e contribuir para o seu gradual esquecimento.
